Position Summary
Hercules Capital is looking for an Analyst for the Life Science team. Analysts collaborate very closely with Managing Directors, Principals and Associates to manage and expand Hercules Capital’s investment portfolio. Some of these responsibilities include conducting financial analysis, business diligence and market assessment for new investments and existing portfolio companies.
Essential Responsibilities
• Providing full analytical support as part of the investment team, which includes: assimilating diligence items, ensuring accuracy and validity of data, evaluating financial performance (key metrics, trends, capital needs) and running financial models. This also includes reviewing investment pitches, analyzing company’s positioning and developing a qualitative understanding of critical success factors for the business.
• Creating reports (memos and financial models) analyzing the findings to present and discuss within the investment team.
• Assisting in preparing collateral for presentation to Investment Committee.
• Assisting in managing existing portfolio, ensuring compliance with reporting, financial performance, and tracking important development milestones.
• Helping in maintaining the internal deal database to ensure accurate and timely contact/company information.
• Researching various sectors and subsectors within the Life Science space; running screens, reports and providing any additional analysis support as needed.
• Other duties and projects as needed.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree with at least one year of related experience in a lending, financial, banking, or consulting environment; Life Science transaction experience will be preferred.
• Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
• Proven analytical, presentation and project skills are critical.
• Comprehensive understanding of financial statements is essential
• Excellent financial modeling skills incorporating Microsoft Excel.
• Experience with MS Office applications is required.
• Ability and willingness to thrive in a fast-paced entrepreneurial environment handling multiple projects at any given time.
• Familiarity with research tools such as S&P Capital IQ, Factset, Bloomberg, Pitchbook, Venture Source, among others.
